What it is
A dental emergency is any problem needing same-day attention: severe pain, swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, or bleeding that will not stop. Because we are open seven days a week until 9 PM, most emergencies can be seen the same day.
Signs you may need this
- Severe toothache that painkillers are not controlling
- Facial or gum swelling — especially if it is spreading or affecting swallowing
- A tooth knocked out or pushed out of position by an injury
- A broken tooth with a sharp edge or exposed nerve
- Bleeding that has not stopped after an hour of pressure
- A dental abscess with fever

First aid at home
For a knocked-out adult tooth: hold it by the crown, not the root, rinse gently in milk or saline, and bring it in milk. Time matters. For swelling: cold compress outside the cheek, and come in.

Common questions — Emergency Dental Care
Is there a dentist open now in Lucknow?
Area Dental Clinic in Malhaur is open 10 AM to 9 PM every day of the week, including Sundays and most public holidays. Call 088746 45135 before travelling so we can keep a slot for you.
My tooth was knocked out — what do I do right now?
For a permanent tooth, act within the hour. Pick it up by the crown, never the root. Rinse briefly in milk or saline if dirty — do not scrub it. Either reposition it gently in the socket or transport it in milk, and come immediately. Do not attempt this with a child's milk tooth.
I have facial swelling — how urgent is that?
Treat it as urgent, particularly if it is spreading, closing your eye, or making swallowing or breathing difficult. Spreading dental infections can become serious. Call us immediately; if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to a hospital emergency department rather than waiting.
What can I do for severe tooth pain until I reach the clinic?
Take the painkiller you normally tolerate, at the labelled dose. Rinse with warm salt water. Keep your head elevated when lying down. Do not place aspirin or clove oil directly on the gum — it burns the tissue. Avoid heat on the face if there is swelling; use cold instead.
